I have really not had very much of an interest in politics until recently. The reason why I want to get more involved now is because of the sad state we as a nation are currently in. I am not talking about the unemployment rate or who won the presidential election. It is sad when people have to call into a talk show (Suze Orman) to ask if they should make a purchase because they cannot determine if they have enough money to make that purchase. I am not talking about an uneducated, low income person but Middle America.
We are not taking responsibility for our actions and expect someone else to bail us out of trouble. What happened to accountability? The majority of American people voted for change and the same people that were just in the White House less than ten years ago are returning to lead our country. What kind of change is that?
I propose some type of educational program to teach Americans about the basic concept of not spending more than you make. I think it goes deeper than that thou because we are willing to risk it all just to keep up with the “Jones”. If everyone scaled back one degree and lived in the kind of house they could really afford . . . and drove the kind of car they could really afford . . . and buying things that they actually have money for instead of credit . . . America would not be in this financial jam. Why does CEOs make more money than they could possibly spend all the while running their companies into the ground? Everyone gets sucked up in this world of going faster and faster and trying to climb the corporate ladder we become intoxicated. Our employers expect us to work more than ever and they say they want us to have a balanced life but it is impossible with the amount of work each of us is tasked with.
We Christians have let the world run over us. I know this for example because the company I work for sent out “Holiday” cards instead of “Christmas” cards. I know this because of the bad language on TV and out in the everyday world that is accepted but we are not allowed to mention the name of Jesus.
We have to do something now and I want to be part of the solution not the problem. I do not know the specific answer but I do think we need to establish educational programs to teach basic economics, morality, work ethics and responsibility. If we want to bring people back to the GOP we cannot wait until eighteen months prior to the next presidential election. We need to establish a plan, leverage our resources and make it happen. This is America where anything is possible.
